I want all thing things to be amphibious. Is that normal?
If I had money, I would do waste full things with it. That being said, if I had 200 grand to spend on something that took premium fuel, it wouldn’t be a car, it would be the Icon A5. So pimp.

Hey, I know a guy who shares your dream.

I was thinking of ramblin when I wrote this...must be some kind of genetic defect we share.

Hey what ever floats your boat.... Or RV or plane or trailer.....

I resent that. I haven’t said a
word
about the Lincoln going in the water. Yet. I suppose I did calculate and design barrel pontoons for the Series and not just amphib the Ranchero, but that barely counts.

Normal? No, but who wants to be normal?

I suppose barrel pontoons are the only way for the Land Rovers. I mean, if they can’t keep their oil in how are they supposed to keep water out??
Curious, what was the displacement for bouyancy?

I seem to recall you need something like 11 barrels for an 88 SIIA. It was an odd number and with extra flotation needed for-ard, you’d have one linked up in front with a bumper bracket. The other ten in two pontoons with breakwater “bows” added, with a box aluminum spar underneath in two places. U-brackets onto the frame. The best way to get on-site that I could think of was to have the pontoons socketed so they could be carried on a trailer with the lift frame in place on the vehicle already.

Sure why not
That video is pretty weird

PTO brass propeller? Somehow a jet motor just doesn’t seem like cricket.

Pimp is also how I would describe the amphibious bus. It’s so stupid, but if I had the money I would buy one so fast.

oh man, I’m still brooding about the Utah related non-sense in that video since you showed it to me.

I can’t imagine they’ve sold more than on or 2 of those...if they are even still in business but seriously how cool is an amphibious RV?!
![]() 04/06/2016 at 18:03 |

Well, since one already has the PTO on one’s 88, a pulley drive to a propeller on a bracket in the trailer hitch does seem like the logical choice...

As a further clarification, I think that was 11 barrels at ~40% submersion or some such. Enough so there was plenty of spare float and less drag.

I'm not sure why you're not making this.

The pontoon kit is further down the priorities list than the Lincoln at present. Otherwise, no real reason. Did I mention my cousin of the Bronze Green Series has picked up a hovercraft to rebuild? Amphibious things all over this place.

For want of a better expression, how is the old barge? I have either missed, or you haven’t posted, any updates on it in a while.
And no, you did not. Is it a homebrew thing or a proper craft by a proper manufacturer with real credentials and a R&D team and all that?
![]() 04/06/2016 at 18:15 |

Yeah they’ve got to be crazy expensive. Probably done by a fab shop that does all sorts of crazy custom jobs. I wouldn’t think making this a production model would be profitable long-term.
Side note: my neighbor has an RV that size (obviously not amphibious) that has been parked in front of his house taking up half of the street for the last week. I wish it was amphibious so he could just leave it in the lake and get it out of the neighborhood!

Cami actually makes it themselves, they also make other amphibious stuff

The Lincoln has been dormant these past few months. Real progress on the Ranchero and a “one bay at a time for idiot projects” policy have meant I haven’t hauled it up on blocks under the subframe to re-rocker it yet. It’s in a dry place at least.
The hovercraft is a proper fiberglass professionally made affair with a Rotax engine. In roughish shape, needing serious repair to the lower hull and a new skirt, but the fundamentals are all present and the engine should be solid when freshened up. I think he paid maybe $600 for it or something.

Damn you now I’m going to spend the rest of the afternoon trolling around their site. I’m surprised that RV is only 1.2 million, I was expecting more than 2 mil.

If only you lived a little further south and had a bayou to hoon on. Would be interested in pics etc when he's up to the task. Hovercrafts tickle my pickle.

That exhaust is rad. Single fan with 2/3 duct?
![]() 04/06/2016 at 18:46 |

Yep 2/3 duct. Exhaust isn’t really supposed to be doing that, I think - more through a little port on back. Here’s one with its skirt off (!).

Oo-er missus, you can see her support linkages and everything.

I like the trailer caravan one, that could be nice for lakes. But I want a surplus duck truck like the tourists ride in, except mine would be much better with a cabin.

well, the terrawind (last one) is made by people who make ducks...so its like a duck camper.

“I want all thing things to be amphibious. Is that normal?”
Yes? I never thought to question wanting everything amphibious :)
